Vita Lands More Apps: Crunchyroll, Qello Concerts, Redbox

The PlayStation Vita just got even more diverse and appealing.

As announced over at the PlayStation Blog, Sony's portable received a bunch of new apps to make your on-the-go entertainment that much more enjoyable.

The Vita will now support Crunchyroll (for all you anime fans), NHL GameCenter LIVE, and Qello Concerts, which lets you watch a ton of full-length concerts in glorious high-definition. Furthermore, more apps are scheduled to come this spring: There's Gaiam TV ("inspiring documentaries and cutting-edge programs"), Hulu Plus (tons of TV shows), and RedBox Instant by Verizon, which offers a bunch of movies. The latter two apps will actually be available next week.

The Vita already has YouTube, Crackle, Facebook, Netflix, Skype, Flickr, TuneIn Radio and others, so it's becoming a fully functional handheld entertainment device, don't you think?

While that's all well and good, it would still be a lot better if you could use the streaming services with your 3g service and not just with wifi.

I don't pay for the 3g service because it's over priced and you can't use more than half the apps with anything but wifi anyway.

I just looked up what games are coming to the Vita within the next year and.......Well let's just say I'm disappointed to say the least.

No Metal Gear, No Grand Turismo, No GTA, No Uncharted and no new IPs I care about.

Someone want to buy a Vita with 4 Games......anybody......hello?

I have two PSPs and I've loved gaming on them. Sadly I've turned to the 3DS for my portable gaming over the Vita for this very reason. There just aren't enough games on the Vita to justify using it.

I'm at the point where I'm considering ditching my Vita and getting an Nvidia Shield.

Do you have a decent gaming rig? It's mainly used for streaming games, at least that's what I'm aware of.

I'd get Crunchyroll but then I'd be paying for something I can get free if I just apply myself.

It's too bad. The crunchyroll site lets you watch for free, there's just commercials, and you have to wait an extra week for the latest episodes. I can live with that. However, the crunchyroll app requires a subscription to watch anything. There's no free option.

In the end, I just end up doing what I've always done for my anime, find a torrent with good subs.

An interesting choice for an opening sentence.

I got about twenty games for my Vita. I haven't had the time to play them all but I am happy that I always have something to play on it. I have over fifty games for it if I include PSone classsics and minis. I have to admit though that I got most of my games free from Playstation Plus. God I love that service.
