New Vita Model Debuts In North America With Borderlands 2

If you haven't picked up the PlayStation Vita, maybe now's the time.

The slimmer Vita 2000 model is now available in North America; for the time being, it can only be purchased as part of the previously announced $200 Borderlands 2 bundle, which features a copy of the anticipated game and an 8GB memory card.

The new Vita is 20 percent slimmer and about 15 percent lighter than the original unit, and those rounded edges are supposed to be more comfortable for extended playing. Gamers also get 1GB of built-in memory, a new LCD screen (which replaces the OLED screen), and extended battery life (4-6 hours of gameplay). As you've probably heard, the Vita also utilizes a Remote Play feature to sync up with the PlayStation 4 and in fact, Sony says Vita owners in the US have spent over 1.7 million hours playing games via Remote Play.

As for the games, Sony says there are currently over 1,000 available for the Vita, but that includes titles that are also playable on the PS3. However, they do say over 100 are scheduled to arrive this year. So, convinced yet?

The saddest part about this is that the GoW launching along side it isn't an original custom built Vita game. That pretty much means it's all sucky from here on out from Sony, me thinks. Sorry, but to cop out and throw out PS2 ports of GoW instead of the real deal is pathetic. They've had plenty of time to develop and support a GoW Vita title by now. They obviously never green lighted it because they lost faith in their own handheld for big budget games some time ago.

I really like and find a lot of use for me Vita for the reasons I bought it for. I just didn't think Sony would slough off themselves so soon with support. I mean come on. They're soft-launching a new Vita and there's no marque title of their's to help show boat it. Sure. There's old Borderlands 2. It's not their game and it sounds to be seriously gimped on Vita….. so much for "the Vita IS as powerful as the PS3" nonsense.

Here's hoping they show at least one big exclusive app for Vita come E3.

careful what you wish for, they could spend half the show talking about their VR headset and how cool it is ;)

I will probably buy a second one if this comes to PAL. The slimmer profile will really fit in my jacket without flaw (fits pretty nicely already).

funny how most shops dont sell this anymore, i can see why!
$ony really needs to stop cheaping out and dumbing down systems so close to their launch though!
stripping back so many features of the original ps3 made allot of people reluctant to buy them, and just drove the prices of the original systems through the roof!
this is going to do the exact same to the vita now, especially with the crappy LCD screen!
