Vita May Interact With Project Morpheus

This could boost interest in Sony's handheld, once we have some official details.

It seems Sony has hinted at the possibility of the PlayStation Vita interacting with Project Morpheus, the company's new virtual reality project.

This according to Simon Benson, director of Sony's Worldwide Studios Immersive Technology Group, who spoke during a recent press event for Morpheus in London (via CVG).

Benson said the Vita might be used as part of SCE's "social screen" initiative, which would act as a second screen for VR experiences:

"Really you want to make sure this isnít an isolated sort of thing. In the old days it was pass the controller, now itís pass the virtual reality headset, you know? But everyone can be involved. One thing we have on there is this thing we call a social screen that allows you to see what the person thatís in the virtual reality space sees on the TV. So they can see the experience and therefore talk to them. They can actually interact with it and maybe use a Vita as a second screen and actually control whatís going to happen to this other person and then see the reaction which is often priceless."

Do you think this is will help generate more consumer interest in the Vita? Or does it sound more like an optional gimmick that may not matter much? Guess we'll have to see how well Morpheus performs before we make any further judgments...

Poor Sony, desperately trying to find *some* use for the Vita.

All they need to do is cut the damned memory card prices a 64GB memory card should not cost almost as much as the system itself. What's worse the 64GB is the best for the money if you bought 64GB of storage with any of the other cards you would be paying more than the Vita itself.

The Vita has plenty of games and is now at a decent price, I see the 8GB bundles everywhere for less than $200, but the memory is just a HUGE turn off to people and for some reason Sony refuses to cut the prices no matter how many times they are asked about it.

What I don't like is that the Vita keeps getting portrayed as some sort of peripheral that can make PS3/PS4 and now, the Morpheus, have additional features.

It reminds me a lot of the SEGA 32X/CD peripheral. Which were suppose to breath new life into the aging Genesis/Megadrive.

I understand that trying to lump it with more successful devices might give Vita a better chance at life. But it seriously needs to stand on its own.

Its like Vita is the Rodney Dangerfield of game systems. No respect.
