New Japanese Trademark Proves Vita 3000 Is On The Way?

Everyone is wondering if PlayStation Vita will survive, but perhaps Sony is actually planning a new iteration.

The gaming world is talking about this translated trademark info from Japan. As you can see, it appears to indicate the Vita 3000, which would mean a fresh hardware model.

There's no way of knowing if this is legit and if it is, there's no way to tell if it'll come to North America and Europe. Perhaps Sony will only release the Vita 3000 in Japan due to flagging sales around the globe. Personally, I say they need to focus on getting some software for the damn thing; forget about newer and better hardware.

Hardware was never this thing's problem.

I would imagine a reason Sony would be revising the PS Vita is to reduce production costs so they can lower the MSRP, while keeping a profit margin on the hardware. I bet the Vita game cards will be nixed on this iteration, making it a PSN-only model for game delivery.

It seems to me Sony is content with the system being primarily an indie game machine and techie-toy, giving up hope on big AAA-style production experiences on a device that couldn't sell $40 games for the life of it. Tearaway was the last great Sony production for this system, sadly.

Not to mention the Sony Xperia Z4 was announced recently but only for Japan.

They may go this route for a new Vita model.

More cost cutting guaranteed likely more internal memory. Sony will probably aim for a $150 price point then bundle it with a PS4 at $500.

Though I just want to see a memory card price cut $2-3 per GB is outrageous.

I can only assume that the Vita games in Japan aren't as dry as everywhere else.

I'm really wondering what's the point of the VITA in the first place.
Sony made no effort to push it, not with contant ports of console titles and lack of AAA games.

It's a positional trademark on the front facing buttons.
