A Game To Make Me Love My Vita Again: Wipeout 2048 Sequel
A few days ago, Sony said a Vita successor is "unlikely."
Admittedly, I haven't picked up my Vita in a while.
As I don't travel much and I have very little interest in looking at a screen when I'm out and about, the Vita is more like an optional gaming platform at home. As weird as it sounds, that's what portable gaming has always been like for me, dating back to the original GameBoy.
At any rate, if there's one new title that would make me dust off the Vita, it would have to be a new Wipeout. Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida gave us all hope with his "never say never" quote concerning a new entry in the esteemed series. And that got me thinking; it reminded me of when I first saw Wipeout 2048 on Sony's slick new portable. It was the first game I reviewed for Vita and there was a damn good reason.
Perhaps even more so than the great Uncharted: Golden Abyss, I felt Wipeout 2048 best highlighted the Vita's raw power and potential. It was just so unbelievably impressive in the portable space; so fast, fluid and highly enjoyable, that it was very difficult to put down. Not only that, but it's the perfect portable production because you don't need to invest a huge amount of time to have fun. And I'm willing to bet I'm not the only one who feels the way. So, if Sony wanted to generate a bit of rejuvenated interest in the flagging Vita, I would strongly recommend a new Wipeout.
