How Zombie Mode Would've Worked In Wipeout 2048
Every game has to have zombies in it, right? Or at least an extra mode featuring the iconic undead?
Well, it makes little sense to include zombies in certain genres; racing, for instance. ...but wait, it's hardly impossible even if it's a tad impractical.
If you visit the PlayStation Blog, you'll find details of a special Zombie mode that didn't make the cut for Wipeout 2048. The upcoming PlayStation Vita launch title should be fantastic, but how would zombies have been implemented?
Basically, you had to avoid or destroy the Zombie ships. You start in darkness, alone on the track, and eventually, you'll hear them coming...death is inevitable; it's only a matter of how long you can hold out. You'll stumble across the occasional weapon but in the end, they'll get you because more and more Zombie ships will appear to take you down. If you can last long enough, the Zombie Mother Ship will show up!
But while the developers thought it was fun, it had to go. Still, that doesn't necessarily mean we'll never see such a mode in the future. Note this part of the Blog post by Liverpool Studios' Stuart Tilley:
"In the final reckoning, we made the call to put Zombie mode on the back burner. That said, like a real-life Zombie, ZOMBIE mode is dead, but it’s not completely dead. ;)"
Okay, so zombies won't be included. But other modes, like Head-to-Head, Speed Lap, Time Trial, Zone Mode, and various Combat events will be featured, and after all, Wipeout is well known for its super fluid and highly addictive racing style. We can't wait to give it a try in February.
