Mortal Kombat On Vita "Surprisingly Similar" To MK On PS3
While the PlayStation Vita isn't exactly a portable PS3, it's darn close in a number of different power respects.
Just ask some developers. NetherRealm Studios, for example, is prepping Mortal Kombat for Sony's new portable and during a Q&A at the PlayStation Blog, creative director Ed Boon was asked if they had to make any "major graphical sacrifices" in bringing the game to the Vita.
His response:
"It’s interesting. We did have to reduce some of the polygon counts from the backgrounds and characters, but that screen is so bright, and it’s got such high pixel density….when I saw Scorpion and Sub-Zero fighting on the Living Forest for the first time, I was amazed. It really maintains the identity of the game. I can’t wait for people to hold it in their hands and see it for themselves — it’s a surprisingly similar experience."
Boon went on to confirm that MK on the Vita will run at a silky smooth 60 frames per second. A few people thought they could get away with 30, but Boon said he knew it would feel different and in the end, they didn't want the handheld version to feel "sluggish or unresponsive." He also confirmed that we'd be able to use the touchscreen to execute a fatality, which we just find unassailably cool.
In short, Mortal Kombat on the go should be totally bad-ass.

I am so glad this reboot has done so well. I really thought one of my all time favourites had finally jumped the shark when they did that DC game. But the new MK is balls to the walls awesome and I can't wait to kick some ass on my Vita.
Oh boy, if done right, these touch fatalities may single handedly justify the Vita's touch screen, way cool!

... what am I saying? Import, duh!!!
There's no region locking or restrictions on Vita, like the PS3, right?
